The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the US on five European individuals involved in combating digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans were placed on individuals who have been at the heart of efforts to enact laws governing American tech companies.

“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”
